Xanthan gum is the result of excretion of a microorganism in the form of exopolysaccharide. The micro-organism that is meant is like plant pathogens and others. Well, then it can be used as a thickener after first isolating it. If it is already isolated, it will be useful because it can be used in various food products such as ice cream, lotions, cosmetic yogurt, or in salad sauces. Xanthan is also precipitated with alcohol and dried. After the drying process is complete, Xanthan will be crushed into protein powder, and supplements with various textures.

If you are allergic to these substances, of course you need xanthan gum. Likewise, if you want to use it in a large scale, of course the replacement is very necessary, remembering the substance is very expensive.

Ok, after we found out about Xanthan, now we see what’s good as a substitute for xanthan candy. Among the well-known and well-known substitutes for xanthan gum are jelly, cornstarch, arrowroot, carrageenan, guar gum, psyllium seed husks, egg whites, cornstarch, and gelatin.

1. Cornstarch

Cornstarch has almost the same consistency as Xanthan gum. This is a good substitute for you if you need a lot of xanthans, especially if you don’t want to spend a lot of money.

2. Chia Seeds

Chia seed is also one of the substitutes for xanthan gum. These seeds contain a lot of fiber as in xanthan they even contain omega 3 and omega 6 fatty acids. These substances are not present in xanthan gum.

3. Arrowroot

Arrowroot is a substance similar to cornstarch in terms of consistency, it can be used to thicken food as a substitute for xanthan gum.

4. Agar agar

For vegetarians, you can use gelatin as a xanthan gum substitute. This material can stabilize food ingredients during the cooking process.

5. Egg Whites

Egg whites are good for yeast substitutes as binding agents. Usually, egg whites are used in baked foods and in desserts to get a softer texture.

6. Psyllium Husks

This is a husk when pounded it will produce a lot of soluble fiber, this fiber is good for thickening food and good binding agents when exposed to water. it works almost the same as xanthan so it is one of the best substitutes for xanthan gum.

7. Guar Gum

Guar Gum is a white substance that is usually a compliment in making soup and cream sauce. It functions as a thickener that replaces xanthan.

8. Ground Flaxseeds

This is a great thickener because it can bind between fibers. These seeds are not superior in thickening food, but also contain other substances that are not present in xanthan such as omega 3 fatty acids.

9. Gelatin

Gelatin is a sticky substance that is used as an alternative to xanthan gum. Its use is often done in grilled food.

10. Carrageenan

Carrageenan is an ingredient obtained from red algae and Irish moss. This is a vegetable product that serves to replace xanthan gum or gelatin. it is widely used in the manufacture of cakes, dairy products, and others.
